The module will provide students with appropriate structures and insight into emerging information, communication and related technologies which may affect business. Students will develop an ability to critically evaluate and integrate information and knowledge systems and technology in relation to business and other organizations. Students will finally have the ability to extract and present meaningful information from quantitative data and to critically evaluate their results in relation to business and other organizations.

The module will enable the development of the analytical skills necessary to make a positive contribution to issues concerning Operations Management. It will be described the strategic contribution that effective Operations Management can play within organisations. And finally, students will be able to determine how the Operations functions within both public and private sector organisations can successfully integrate with other organisational functions.

This module aims to introduce all key SHRM theories and concepts. Globalization and the implications of the external environment changes are discussed in the context of HRM decisions. The human capital and people equity issues are analysed along with the organizations’ HR practices and procedures. The modules’ objectives are the understanding of the important role of HR for the company’s effectiveness, the examination of different HR methods and techniques and their application in different contexts.

This module will enable students to measure financial performance as reported in financial statements and as forecast in financial planning documents. Understand and communicate financial knowledge and information within management reporting systems. Introduce techniques for evaluating financial risk and decision making.

This module will develop an understanding of the key marketing concepts and to understand how organisational performance can be enhanced by a marketing orientation. It will provide an understanding of the roles of analysis, planning, implementation and control in the marketing process. Application of the marketing concept in many contexts including consumer, business-to-business and not-for-profit.

This module will help students develop an understanding of the additional knowledge and skills needed by managers in an international business environment. Extend managers ability to analyse the risks inherent in international business situations. It will enable managers to improve their understanding by investigating a topic in international management that is of relevance to them or their organization.

The module explores the role the small business plays in the economy and society and examines the management of small businesses in a wide variety of contexts and situations. The module applies a holistic approach; functional divisions such as operations management, marketing and finance are often not found in small businesses. Instead managers need to be flexible and able to cope with the complexity and ambiguity of operating within a contemporary, dynamic, post-modern context.

Strategic Management is concerned with the central questions of competition; Answering these questions involves looking at the complex sets of resources and relations found in the firm and its environment. To achieve this, we will be examining a number of conceptual and analytical approaches and models to help us understand the assets and capabilities of the organisation, and its relationships with suppliers, customers, regulatory bodies and other firms. Following on from this analysis we will consider the issues involved in acting upon that understanding and designing and implementing strategic change.

The modules aim is to introduce students to issues of securing knowledge about the human behaviours in work places through the design of research projects, collection and analysis of data, and presentation of results. The module focuses on skills and knowledge necessary for the successful completion of a research project.

The dissertation enables students to specialise in an area of interest by conducting an independent, in-depth research project, guided by research-active tutors. Students will evaluate and synthesise research philosophies, develop research strategies, conduct research using secondary and/or primary sources and analyse their findings in relation to existing theories. The dissertation is of interest to potential future employers, demonstrating critical abilities, research expertise and business knowledge. It can also prompt student interest in conducting further research, whether in a consultancy role or in continued academic research at PhD level.
